Publishing a magazine on the culture and heritage of the Bini Kingdom alongside Prince Omoregbe Eredi- auwa has been an absolute
honor. It was done out of a common belief that our rich Bini cultural heri- tage should be better documented and presented to the younger generation in a more interesting and readable manner, and in the course of the publication,
it became even clearer to us that the need to preserve these records is much greater than we will ever know. We also discovered that the best records, books, artworks, e.t.c are either with private collectors or with our very elderly Bini men and women as they were passed on by their parents and were only recognized and preserved few instances. Again, the records in most of the public domains were scanty at best.
For me, the journey towards pub- lishing this magazine started about two years ago when I published a magazine
– titled CARNIRIV 2014, ONE LOVE ONE PEOPLE- to capture the essence of the Port Harcourt Carnival 2014, and document most of the activities and their representations for posterity. The level
of information gathered and revealed, amazed the organizers and gave rise to the publishing of DISCOVER RIVERS 2015, the o cial state magazine for the 2015 Carniriv celebrations.
With UgieEdo, we hope to ignite the interest of every Bini man and woman, as well as lovers of African arts and culture around the world. The aim of this publi- cation is to get everyone to consciously preserve and protect their historical artifacts wherever they are found. We certainly believe that endeavour will kick start and unlock the wealth of history in the ancient Bini Kingdom, which is appli- cable to many other tribes in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed one way or the other to make this publication a success, particu- larly our sponsors, without whom such a non-pro t oriented project would have been a challenge. I also thank my family, especially my wife, Mrs Sylvia Nonyelum Damasus-Amadasun, Managing Director of Sly 5 Concepts, for her understanding, support and contributuion to the success of this magazine. We certainly look for- ward to subsequent editions as we hope to keep the Bini torch burning for years to come.
Thank You.
